What is your opinion of Principal under fire for giving graduation speech in Spanish?

This happened when I was a teacher in the Bronx. Our Principal was a former Spanish teacher. Most of our parents spoke Spanish in the home--all our kids were proficient in English enough to go to four year colleges. Why not let the parents join in the celebration?
